The United Nations 2030 agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

As we often do, here are some key features:

  • These goals were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015
  • There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • The goals are aimed at improving health and education, reducing inequality, and to spur economic growth
  • One aim is to end global poverty and other deprivations
  • Improvement while working to preserve our oceans and forests

Take a look at the UN’s 17 goalsffor sustainable development…

Question and Answers:

Q: So why might this be important?

A: The obvious reason is to uplift The World’s population away from negative impacts and heading toward a situation that is free of deprivation.

Q: Why are we paying attention to this?

A: Poverty and deprivation (and sometimes the related issue of education) can often prevent people that would otherwise make sound and caring decisions. These factors can also cause people to act in a way that is detrimental toward them or the planet. A simple example might be that a person chops down trees for a living to provide food and shelter for their family, even though that might be destroying the land where they live.

Q: What can I do?

A: Take a look at the UN’s goals and see if the companies that you pay or interact with in your life are working toward these goals. This is important because these companies will not change what they are doing unless YOU take action.

How do the goals apply to me?

If you take any one of the 17 goals then you can see how we can improve the world we live in:

Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. You can take a look at Microplastics – What are they? and how do they harm our oceans?

Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. You can investigate Desertification – What is it and what causes it?

As is always the case with SavedThatOne, we don’t think everyone can necessarily do everything on any list, but we can move to do our small part. If everyone does something then the global shift will occur.
